DASV: 1 Thessalonians 5
1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you do
not need to have anything written to you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the Lord
comes like a thief in the night.
3 When they are saying, “Peace and safety,” then sudden
destruction will come upon them, as labor pains upon a
pregnant woman. There will be no way to escape.
4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, for that day to
surprise you like a thief.
5 For you are all sons of light, and sons of the day. We are
not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us stay
alert and be sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep in the night and those who are
get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, putting on the
breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope
of salvation.
9 For God did not destine us for wrath, but for the obtaining
of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 who died for us, that whether we are awake or asleep, we
should live together with him.
11 Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up,
just as you already do.
12 But we ask you, brothers, to acknowledge those who labor
among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you.
13 Esteem them most highly in love because of their work. Be
at peace among yourselves.
14 We urge you, brothers, admonish the lazy, encourage the
discouraged, help the weak, be patient toward all.
15 See that no one repays evil for evil; but always pursue that
which is good for one another, and for all.
16 Rejoice always,
17 pray without ceasing,
18 in everything give thanks. For this is God’s will for you
in Christ Jesus.
19 Do not extinguish the Spirit.
20 Do not despise the prophetic word.
21 But test everything, hang on to that which is good.
22 Stay away from every type of evil.
23 Now may the God of peace himself make you completely holy.
May your spirit, soul and body be kept totally blameless at
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is he who calls you, and he who will do it.
25 Brothers, pray for us.
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 I command you by the Lord that this epistle be read to
all the brothers.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
