          DASV: 1 Thessalonians 4

1 Finally brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that,
as you received instruction from us on how you ought to walk
and to please God, just as you are in fact living -- that
you do so more and more.
2 For you know what we taught you from the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is God’s will: that you be holy and abstain from
sexual immorality,
4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in
holiness and honor,
5 not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know
God.
6 In this issue one should not cheat or wrong his brother,
because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, just as
we also told and warned you before.
7 For God did not call us to impurity, but to holiness.
8 Therefore the one who rejects this, does not reject human
instruction, but God’s, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
9 Now concerning brotherly love, you do not need anyone to write
to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another.
10 Indeed you show it toward all the brothers who are throughout
Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, that you do so more and more.
11 Make it your goal to live a quiet life, to mind your own
business, and to work with your hands, just as we instructed you.
12 Then you can live properly before outsiders, and will not be
dependent on anyone.
13 But we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning
those who have fallen asleep; so you will not grieve like the
rest who have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then those
who are fallen asleep in Jesus, God will bring with him.
15 For we tell you this by the authority of the word of the Lord,
that we who are left alive when the Lord comes, will certainly
not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God,
and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together
with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so
we will be with the Lord forever.
18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
