DASV: Ephesians 5
1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children,
2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself
up for us, a fragrant offering and a sacrifice to God.
3 But let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed
among you, as these are not appropriate for saints.
4 Neither should there be any foolish talk or crude jesting,
which are not proper but rather giving thanks.
5 Be sure of this, that no one who is sexually immoral, or
impure, or greedy--who is an idolater--has any inheritance
in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these
things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
7 Therefore do not participate with them.
8 For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord.
Walk as children of light--
9 for the fruit of the light is found in all goodness,
righteousness and truth.
10 Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.
11 Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness,
but rather expose them.
12 For the things which they do in secret are shameful
even to speak of.
13 But all things when they are exposed by the light,
are made visible.
14 Therefore it is said, “Awake, you who are sleeping,
and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
15 Look, be careful how you walk, not as unwise,
but as wise.
16 Make the most of the time, because the days are evil.
17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the
will of the Lord is.
18 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery,
but be filled with the Spirit,
19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual
songs, singing and making music in your heart to the Lord,
20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything
in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
21 submitting yourselves to each other out of reverence
for Christ.
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ
is also the head of the church. He himself is the savior
of the body.
24 As the church submits to Christ, so let wives also
submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church,
and gave himself up for it,
26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the
washing of water by the word,
27 that he might present the church to himself as glorious,
not having a stain, wrinkle or any blemish, but that it
should be holy and without blame.
28 Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as
their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself.
29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but feeds and
takes care of it, even as Christ also does for the church,
30 because we are members of his body.
31 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother,
and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become
one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery, but I am talking about Christ
and the church.
33 Nevertheless, each one of you should love his wife
as himself, and let the wife respect her husband.
