          DASV: Ephesians 4

1 I, therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, implore you to walk
worthily of the calling you have received,
2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing
with one another in love.
3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the
bond of peace.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, just as you were called
in one hope of your calling,
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all,
and in all.
7 But grace was given to each one of us according to the
measure of the gift of Christ.
8 This is why it says, “When he ascended on high, he led a
crowd of captives, and gave gifts to men.”
9 Note how it said this: “He ascended.” What does it mean
except he also descended into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He who descended is the same also who ascended far above
all the heavens, that he might fill all things.
11 He gave some to be apostles, and some to be prophets,
and some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and
teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints, for the work of service,
to build up the body of Christ,
13 until we all attain the unity of the faith, and of the
knowledge of the Son of God, unto a mature person measuring
up to the stature of the fullness of Christ,
14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro
and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the human
trickery, in craftiness, after their deceitful scams.
15 But speaking truth in love, we will grow up in all things
into him, who is the head, even Christ.
16 From him all the body, perfectly joined and held together
by every joint with each one doing its part, making the body
grow as it builds itself up in love.

17 So I say this, and insist in the Lord, that you no longer
walk as the Gentiles, in the futility of their mind.
18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from
the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them,
because of the hardening of their heart.
19 They are callous giving themselves up to sensuality, to
do every kind of uncleanness with greediness.
20 This is not the way you learned about Christ,
21 assuming that you heard about him, and were taught in him,
just as truth is in Jesus.
22 Put away, your former manner of life, the old self,
which grew in corruption and deception by its lusts.
23 Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
24 Put on the new self, which was created in God’s image
in true righteousness and holiness.
25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, tell the truth to
your neighbor, for we are members one of another.
26 Be angry yet do not sin. Do not let the sun go down
on your wrath.
27 Do not give an opportunity to the devil.
28 Let those who stole steal no more, but rather let him
labor, doing honest work with his own hands so that he may
have something to give to the one who has need.
29 Let no corrupt speech come out of your mouth, but only
what is good for building up the one in need, that it
may give grace to those who hear.
30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were
sealed for the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, quarreling, and
slander, be put away from you, along with all malice.
32 Instead be kind to one another, tenderhearted,
forgiving each other, just as God also forgave you in
Christ.
