DASV: 2 Peter 3
1 Beloved, this is now, the second letter that I have written
to you; and in both of them I am attempting to stir up your
pure mind by way of reminding you.
2 Remember the words which were predicted by the holy prophets,
and the commandments of the Lord and Savior through your apostles.
3 Knowing this first of all that in the last days mockers will
come with mockery, walking after their evil desires.
4 They will say, “Where is his promised coming? For, from
the day that our ancestors fell asleep, all things continue
as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
5 For they have deliberately forgotten, that by the word
of God the heavens from of old and an earth were formed
out of water and in the midst of water.
6 By these means the world that was then, perished being
flooded with water.
7 But by the same word the heavens that now are, and the
earth, have been stored up for fire, being reserved for
the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.
8 Now do not forget this one thing, beloved, that one day
with the Lord is like a thousand years, and a thousand
years like one day.
9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some
think about slowness; but he is patient with you, not
wishing that any should perish, but that all should come
to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. When
it comes the heavens will pass away with a great noise,
and the elements will melt down in blazing heat, and the
earth and the deeds done on it will be exposed.
11 Seeing all these things are going to be dissolved, what
sort of persons should you be, living in all holiness
and godliness,
12 looking forward to and hurrying along the coming of
the day of God? Because of this the heavens will be set
on fire and dissolved, and the elements will melt with
blazing heat.
13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens
and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
14 Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these
things, strive to be found in peace, without spot and
blameless in his sight.
15 Think about the patience of our Lord as salvation;
even as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you,
according to the wisdom given to him,
16 speaking in his letters of these things. In them are
some things that are hard to understand, which the
ignorant and unstable twist, as they do the other Scriptures,
to their own destruction.
17 Therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand,
beware lest, being carried away with the error of the
wicked, you fall from your own secure position.
18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and
forever. Amen.
