          DASV: Luke 5

1 It came to pass, while Jesus was standing by the Lake of
Gennesaret, the crowd pressed in on him in order to hear the
word of God.
2 He saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen
had gotten out of them, and were washing their nets.
3 He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked
him to put out a little from the shore. He sat down and taught
the crowd from the boat.
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out
into the deep, and let down your nets for a catch."
5 Simon replied, "Master, we worked all night, and have caught
nothing; yet if you say so I will let down the nets."
6 After they had done it, they caught so many fish that their
nets were breaking.
7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat that they
should come and help them. They came, and filled both the boats,
so that they began to sink.
8 But Simon Peter, when he saw it, fell down at Jesus' knees,
saying, "Leave me, Lord, for I am a sinful man."
9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch
of fish that they had taken.
10 So were also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners
with Simon. Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on
you will catch men."
11 When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything,
and followed him.

12 While he was in one of the towns, a man full of leprosy came and
when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face, and begged him, saying,
"Lord, if you want, you can make me clean."
13 So Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying,
"I am willing. Be made clean." Immediately the leprosy left him.
14 Jesus charged him not to tell anyone and said "Go your way,
and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing
what Moses commanded, for a testimony to them."
15 But the news about him spread all the more and great crowds
came together to hear, and to be healed of their diseases.
16 He often withdrew into the deserts and prayed.

17 On one of those days that he was teaching, there were Pharisees
and doctors of the law sitting nearby, who had come out of every
village of Galilee, Judea and Jerusalem. The power of the Lord
was with him to heal.
18 Men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed. They attempted to
bring him in and to lay him before Jesus.
19 But not finding a way that they could bring him in because of
the crowd, they went up on the roof, and let him down through the
tiles with his mat into the middle of the crowd in front of Jesus.
20 Seeing their faith, Jesus said, "Friend, your sins are forgiven."
21 The scribes and the Pharisees began to raise questions, saying,
"Who is this speaking blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but
God alone?"
22 But Jesus perceiving their objections, answered and said to them,
"Why do you reason like this in your hearts?
23 Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say,
'Get up and walk'?
24 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth
to forgive sins," he said to the person who was paralyzed, "I say to
you, get up and take your mat, and go home."
25 Immediately he stood up before them, picked up his mat, and went
home, glorifying God.
26 Astonishment took hold of everyone, and they glorified God. They
were filled with fear, saying, "We have seen amazing things today."

27 After these things he went out, and saw a tax collector, named Levi,
sitting at a tax booth, and said to him, "Follow me."
28 He forsook all, got up and followed him.
29 Then Levi made a great feast for him in his house. There was a great
crowd of tax collectors and of others who were sitting at dinner with
them.
30 The Pharisees and their scribes complained against his disciples,
saying, "Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?"
31 Jesus replied, "Those who are healthy do not need a doctor; but
those who are sick.
32 I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."

33 They questioned him, "The disciples of John often fast and make
prayers, likewise also the disciples of the Pharisees; but your
disciples eat and drink."
34 Then Jesus said to them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast,
while the bridegroom is with them?
35 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from
them, then, in those days, they will fast."
36 He also told them a parable: "No one tears a piece of a new garment
and puts it on an old garment; otherwise not only will he have to
tear the new one, but also the piece from the new will not match
with the old cloth.
37 No one puts new wine into old wineskins; else the new wine will
burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
38 But new wine must be put into new wineskins.
39 No one having drunk old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old
is good.'"
