DASV: Mark 10
1 Then Jesus left there and came to the region of Judea and
beyond the Jordan River and crowds came together to him.
Again, as was his custom, he taught them.
2 Some Pharisees came testing him asking, "Is it lawful for
a man to put away his wife?"
3 He answered them, "What did Moses command you?"
4 They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of
divorce, and to send her away."
5 But Jesus said to them, "Because of the hardness of your heart
he wrote this commandment.
6 But from the beginning of the creation, he made them male
and female.
7 For this cause a man will leave his father and mother,
and will be joined to his wife,
8 and the two will become one flesh. So then they are no
longer two, but one flesh.
9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
10 Once in the house, the disciples asked him again about this
matter.
11 Then he said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife, and marries
another, commits adultery against her.
12 If she divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits
adultery."
13 Now people were bringing to him little children, that he
should touch them, and the disciples rebuked them.
14 But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant, and said to them,
"Let the little children come to me; do not stop them for to
such belongs the kingdom of God.
15 Truly I say to you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of
God as a little child, there is no way he will enter it."
16 Then he took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying
his hands upon them.
17 As Jesus was going out on his way, a man ran up to him,
and kneeled before him, asking him, "Good teacher, what shall
I do that I may inherit eternal life?"
18 Jesus replied, "Why do you call me good? There is none good
except God alone.
19 You know the commandments, 'Do not kill, Do not commit
adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not
defraud, Honor your father and mother.'"
20 He said to him, "Teacher, I have done all these things
from my youth."
21 Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, "You lack
one thing. Go, sell whatever you have and give it to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
22 Because of this his face fell, and he went away sorrowful,
for he had great possessions.
23 Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How
hard it is for those who have riches to enter into the kingdom
of God!"
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus repeated
to them, "Children, how hard is it for those who trust in
riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle,
than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
26 They were totally astonished, saying to each other, "Then
who can be saved?"
27 Jesus looking at them said, "With men it is impossible, but
not for God, for all things are possible for God."
28 Peter said to him, "Look, we have left all, and have
followed you."
29 Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, there is no one that has
left house, or brothers, sisters, mother, father, children,
or lands, for my sake, and for the gospel's sake,
30 who will not receive a hundred times now in this age, houses,
brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and lands, with persecutions;
and in the age to come, eternal life.
31 But many who are first will be last; and the last first."
32 When they got on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and
Jesus went ahead of them, they were amazed, but those who
followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to
tell them the things that were about to happen to him,
33 saying, "Look, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man
will be handed over
to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn
him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.
34 They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and will
kill him. After three days, he will rise again."
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, approached
him saying, "Teacher, we want you to do something for us
whatever we ask you."
36 He said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?"
37 They said to him, "Grant us that we may sit, one at
your right hand, and the other at you left hand, in your
glory."
38 But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what your
asking for. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink,
or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"
39 They said to him, "We can." Jesus said to them, "The cup
that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism that I
am baptized you will be baptized with,
40 but to sit at my right hand or at my left hand is not
mine to give. It is for those for whom it has been prepared."
41 When the ten heard it, they were angry with James and John.
42 Then Jesus called them to him, and said, "You know that
those who rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and
their leaders exercise authority over them.
43 But it is not like that among you. Whoever would become
great among you, will be your servant.
44 Whoever wants to be first among you, must be servant of
all.
45 For the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life a ransom for many."
46 Then they came to Jericho. As he left Jericho, with his
disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus,
a blind beggar, was sitting by the road side.
47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to
cry out, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me."
48 Many rebuked him, telling him to be quiet, but he cried
out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me."
49 Then Jesus stood still, and said, "Call him." So they called
to the blind man, "Cheer up, get up, he is asking for you."
50 He, throwing away his garment, sprang up, and came to Jesus.
51 Then Jesus said, "What do you want me to do for you?" The
blind man said to him, "Rabbi, I want to receive my sight."
52 Then Jesus said to him, "Go your way, your faith has made
you whole." Immediately he received his sight, and followed
him down the road.
