DASV: Mark 8
1 In those days, when there was again a large crowd, and they
had nothing to eat. Jesus called his disciples and said to them,
2 "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with
me for three days now and have not had anything to eat.
3 If I send them home fasting they will faint on the way for some
of them have come from far away."
4 His disciples answered him, "Where can anyone get enough bread
to feed these people in this desolate place?"
5 Then he asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" They replied,
"Seven."
6 He commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took
the seven loaves, and after giving thanks, he broke them, and gave
it to his disciples, to set before them. Then they served it to
the crowd.
7 They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he commanded to
serve these to them also.
8 They ate, and were filled, and they picked up, seven baskets of
leftover pieces.
9 There were about four thousand people and he sent them away.
10 Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples, and
came to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 Then the Pharisees came out, and began to question him, seeking
a sign from heaven from him to test him.
12 He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, "Why does this
generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be
given to this generation."
13 Then he left them, and again got into the boat and went to
the other side.
14 But they forgot to take bread, and there was none in the boat
with them except a single loaf.
15 He warned them, "Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the
Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."
16 They discussed it with each other, saying, "It is because
we do not have any bread."
17 Jesus perceiving it said to them, "Why do you argue, because
you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Are your
hearts that hard?
18 Having eyes, you do not see? Having ears, you do not hear?
Do you not remember?
19 When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how
many baskets full of leftover pieces did you pick up?" They
replied, "Twelve."
20 "When I broke the seven among the four thousand, how many
baskets full of leftover pieces did you pick up?" They said
to him, "Seven."
21 Then he said to them, "Do you still not understand?"
22 Then they came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him,
and urged him to touch him.
23 He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him
out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes, and
laid his hands on him, he asked him, "Do you see anything?"
24 He looked up, and said, "I see men, but they look like
walking trees."
25 Then Jesus again laid his hands on his eyes, and he looked
intently, and his sight was restored. He saw everything
clearly.
26 Then Jesus sent him away to his home, saying, "Do not
even enter the village."
27 Jesus and his disciples went out into the villages of
Caesarea Philippi, and on the way he asked his disciples,
"Who do people say that I am?"
28 So they told him, "John the Baptist; and others, Elijah;
but others, one of the prophets."
29 Then he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Peter answered him, "You are the Christ."
30 He ordered them that they should not tell anyone about him.
31 So he began to teach them, that the Son of Man must suffer
many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief
priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three
days rise again.
32 Now he spoke about this openly. Peter took him aside,
and began to rebuke him.
33 But he turned around, and seeing his disciples, he rebuked
Peter, and said, "Get behind me, Satan. For you are not
thinking about the things of God, but about the things
of men."
34 He gathered the crowd with his disciples, and said to them,
"If any one would come after me, let him deny himself,
take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, and
whoever will lose his life for my sake and the gospel's
will save it.
36 For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world,
and forfeit his life?
37 For what can a person give in exchange for his life?
38 For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in
this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will
also be ashamed of him, when he comes in the glory of his
Father with the holy angels."
