          DASV: Deuteronomy 14

1 You are the children of the LORD your God. Do no cut
yourselves or shave your forehead bald for the dead.
2 For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD
has chosen you to be a people for his own special possession,
above all peoples on the face of the earth.

3 Do not eat any detestable thing.
4 These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,
5 the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex,
the antelope and the mountain sheep.
6 You may eat any animal that both splits the hoof, divided
in two, and also chews the cud.
7 However you may not eat those that either chew the cud or
that have split hooves: the camel, the hare and the rock badger;
because they chew the cud but do not split the hoof,
so they are unclean to you.
8 The pig is unclean to you because it splits the hoof but does
not chew the cud. You may not eat their meat and do not
touch their carcasses.

9 These marine animals you may eat: whatever has fins and scales.
10 Whatever does not have both fins and scales you may not eat;
it is unclean to you.

11 You may eat all clean birds.
12 But these are the ones you may not eat: the eagle,
the vulture, the black vulture,
13 the red and black kite, and any kind of falcon,
14 ravens of any kind,
15 the ostrich, the owl, the sea gull, and hawks of any kind,
16 the little and great owl, and the white owl,
17 the desert owl, the carrion vulture, the cormorant,
18 the stork, the heron of any kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.
19 All flying insects that crawl on the ground are unclean to you;
they may not be eaten.
20 You may eat all clean birds.

21 Do not eat of anything that dies naturally. You may give it
to the resident foreigner who is within your gates and he may
eat it. You may sell it to a foreigner. For you are a holy
people to the LORD your God. Do not boil a young goat in its
mother's milk.

22 You are to tithe all the crops from your seed that comes from
the field annually.
23 You are to eat it before the LORD your God, in the place that
he will choose to make his name to dwell, the tithe of your grain,
your new wine, your olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds
and flocks; so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.

24 If, when the LORD your God blesses you, the place that the LORD
your God will choose to put his name there is too far from you
so that you are not able to bring it there,
25 then you may convert it into money, with the money secure in hand,
and go to the place that the LORD your God will choose.
26 Then you may spend the money on whatever you wish, for oxen,
sheep, wine, strong drink or for whatever your appetite wants.
You and your household must eat it there before the LORD
your God and rejoice.
27 Do not neglect the Levite who is within your gates, for he
has no portion or inheritance with you.

28 At the end of every three years bring out all the tithe of your
produce for that year, and store it up within your towns.
29 Then the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you,
along with the foreigner, the orphan and the widow, who are
within your gates, may come, eat and be satisfied so that the
LORD your God may bless you in all the work your hands undertake
to do.
