          DASV: Numbers 17

1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
2 "Speak to the Israelites, and get wooden staffs from them,
one from each tribe, from every tribal leader, twelve staffs.
Write each man's name on his staff.
3 Write Aaron's name on the staff of Levi; for there shall be
one staff for the head of each tribe.
4 Place them in the Tent of Meeting before the ark of the covenant,
where I meet with you.
5 The staff of the man whom I choose will bud. In this way
I will put an end to the complaining of the Israelites."
6 So Moses spoke to the Israelites; and all their leaders
gave him wooden staffs, one for each leader, according to
their ancestral tribes, twelve staffs; and the staff of Aaron
was among their staffs.

7 Then Moses put the staffs before the LORD in the Tent of
the Testimony.
8 The next day Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony;
and Aaron's staff for the house of Levi had sprouted.
It put forth buds, brought forth blossoms and produced
ripe almonds.
9 When Moses brought out all the staffs from before the
LORD to all the Israelites, they looked and each man took
his own staff.

10 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Put Aaron's staff back
before the Testimony, to be kept for a warning sign to
the rebels; that you may put an end to their complaining
against me, so that they will not die."
11 Moses did just as the LORD commanded him.
12 Then the Israelites spoke to Moses, saying, "Look, we
are doomed! We perish! We will all perish!
13 Anyone who comes near to the tabernacle of the LORD
will die. Are we all going to die?"
