DASV: Exodus 7
1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you
like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will
be your prophet.
2 You will speak everything I command you, and your
brother Aaron will tell Pharaoh, that he must let the
Israelites leave his land.
3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and although I multiply
my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt,
4 Pharaoh will not listen to you. So I will lay my hand
on Egypt, and bring out my platoons, my people the Israelites,
out of the land of Egypt by great acts of judgment.
5 Then the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD,
when I stretch out my hand against Egypt, and bring
out the Israelites from among them."
6 So Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them.
7 Now Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three,
when they spoke to Pharaoh.
8 Now the LORD told Moses and Aaron,
9 "When Pharaoh says to you, 'Perform a miracle,' then tell Aaron,
'Take your staff and throw it down in front of Pharaoh,
and it will become a snake.'"
10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did as the
LORD had commanded. Aaron threw down his staff in front of
Pharaoh and his servants, and it became a snake.
11 Then Pharaoh also summoned wise men, sorcerers and the magicians
of Egypt who also did the same thing by their secret arts.
12 Each one threw down his staff and they became snakes.
But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.
13 Yet Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen
to them just as the LORD had predicted.
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is stubborn,
he refuses to let the people go.
15 Go to Pharaoh in the morning, when he goes out to the water,
and stand on the bank of the river to meet him. Take in your
hand the staff that was turned to a snake.
16 Then declare to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent
me to tell you, "Let my people go, that they may worship me in the
wilderness. But until now you have not listened.
17 'This is what the LORD says, "By this you will know that I am
the LORD." Look, I will strike with the staff that is in my hand
the waters of the Nile, and they will be turned to blood.
18 The fish that are in the Nile will die, and the river will stink
so that the Egyptians will be unable to drink water from the Nile.'"
19 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff,
and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over its rivers,
canals, pools and over all its reservoirs, so that they may turn to blood.
There will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, even in
the wooden containers and stone jars.'"
20 So Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD commanded; and he lifted
up the staff, and struck the waters that were in the river,
in the sight of Pharaoh and his servants. All the water that
was in the river turned to blood.
21 The fish that were in the river died and the river began to stink,
and the Egyptians were unable to drink the water and there was
blood everywhere in the land of Egypt.
22 But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts,
so Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them
just as the LORD had predicted.
23 Then Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he did
not take even this to heart.
24 All the Egyptians dug around the Nile for water to drink
because they could not drink the river water.
25 Seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.
